BRASS & WOOD CHARACTERISTICS
Natural wood provides a warm, comfortable grip and gives every brush its own subtle grain and tone. These natural variations are part of the material’s individual character rather than defects.
Brass is durable, resistant to breakage and highly responsive to temperature. The closely arranged brass points spread pressure across a wider surface, creating a substantial massage experience without concentrating all the force on a single edge.
The wide-panel design is particularly suited to rhythmic brushing around the waist and abdomen. In traditional Chinese practice, this area is associated with the Dai Mai, or Belt Vessel, which runs around the body’s midsection.
CARE TIPS
- After each use, wipe the brass points with a soft damp cloth and a small amount of mild soap if needed. Remove any oil or product residue, then dry the entire brush immediately and thoroughly.
- Do not soak or submerge the brush, as prolonged contact with water may affect the natural wood. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, excessive heat and humid storage.
- Brass may naturally darken or develop a patina through contact with air, moisture and skin oils. If desired, gently polish the brass points with a soft, non-abrasive brass polishing cloth, taking care to avoid the wooden surface. Clean and dry the contact points thoroughly before using the brush again.
FAQs
WHAT IS THE DAIMAI?
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Dai Mai is also known as the Belt Vessel because it is understood to encircle the waist. Dai Mai massage commonly focuses on rhythmic movements around the waist, sides and abdomen as part of a traditional body-care ritual.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A BRASS GUA SHA TOOL?
The wide brush provides rhythmic, evenly distributed pressure across larger body areas. It may help relax tight-feeling areas, create a temporary sensation of warmth and make daily body care feel more calming and intentional.
In traditional Chinese practice, the brush may also be used along meridian pathways and acupressure areas to encourage the movement of qi and blood. Individual experiences vary.
IS IT ONLY FOR THE WAIST?
No. Although the wide-panel design is especially suitable for Dai Mai massage around the waist and abdomen, it may also be used on the arms, thighs, calves, shoulders, back and other suitable body areas.
HOW MUCH PRESSURE SHOULD I USE?
Begin with light, comfortable pressure. Keep the brass points in even contact with the skin rather than pressing forcefully. Use especially gentle pressure around the abdomen, sensitive areas and areas close to bone.
HOW OFTEN CAN I USE IT?
Begin with two or three sessions per week. If your skin and body feel comfortable, you may gradually use it more frequently. Allow any redness or tenderness to settle before treating the same area again.
HOW SHOULD I CLEAN AND STORE IT?
Wash briefly with mild soap, dry immediately and store away from moisture. Brass naturally reacts with air, moisture and skin oils, so darkening or patina may develop over time. This is a normal material characteristic rather than a defect.
